David F Eastman, Advisor

David Eastman has over 35 years of executive management, product marketing and management, operations, strategic marketing, start-up venture development and new product launch experience marketing life science, high technology, and telecom products.

Mr. Eastman currently is the Chief Executive Officer of Gamma Therapeutics, an Oregon early stage biotechnology venture developing medical devices for cardiovascular disease risk assessment, surgical therapy and combat casualty care based upon the use of human clotting proteins.

Prior to Gamma Therapeutics, Mr. Eastman was the interim CEO of Yecuris, a biotechnology venture developing humanized mouse models for use in Life Science drug discovery. Mr. Eastman developed the business model for Yecuris, raised $3.0 M in venture capital and angel funding and developed strategic partnerships with five of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies–AstraZeneca, Merck, Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline and Roche–and two of the world’s leading cell suppliers, Lonza & BD Biologicals. Mr. Eastman sits on the Board of Directors of four Life Science start-ups including NeuraMedica, OmnEcoil, Sympano and MagnetoOrganics. In his role as an OTRADI Business Incubator biomentor, Mr. Eastman is currently mentoring several OBI start-ups in winning NIH/NSF multi-million dollar grants including Caregiven, Veana Therapeutics and Motusi.

Over the past 25 years, Mr. Eastman has consulted with, worked for and managed 29 life science startup ventures focused on biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, systems, and software and worked in executive product management for four divisions of Becton Dickinson and Company, Fresenius USA, Cordis Dow Medical and host of other large pharma and biotech companies.

In addition to Mr. Eastman’s 25 years in the Life Science industry, David has 15 years of U.S. and International experience marketing semiconductor, high technology and telecom products. Mr. Eastman has broad corporate marketing and new product launch experience in enterprise IT architecture tools, engineering IC validation systems, virtual test software, ATE and XML-based Internet solutions working with companies such as Intel, IBM/Sequent Computers, Siemens AG and IMS/Credence. In addition, working with Qsent a telecom start-up, Mr. Eastman worked with the major telecom companies including Verizon, T-Mobile, Quest Communications and AT&T developing wireless legislation as part of a new 411 wireless directory system.

Mr. Eastman holds a Masters in Science degree in Business, Marketing and Design from the University of Oregon, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from the University of Northern Colorado, and Executive Medical Product Marketing MBA Certificate from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Leveraging his professional experience, Mr. Eastman has been previously appointed Adjunct Instructor, Global Biotechnology Business, at the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology and as an Adjunct Instructor of Marketing at the University of Oregon.

Mr. Eastman actively works with Oregon life science scientist, physician and engineering inventors in launching their start-ups and mentors doctoral and MST/MBA students and programs at the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, Portland State University, the Oregon Health & Sciences University and the University of Portland. For the past three summers, Mr. Eastman has been a business advisor to the Young Entrepreneur’s Business Week, a program for high school students interested in marketing, business and finance careers, teaching entrepreneurship and developing the marketing curriculum.
